Since 2014, Bench Outreach has been pioneering the Housing First model, offering an alternative route to housing based on the belief that housing is a basic human right. Our service is built on the principles outlined by Housing First England, which include:
- Immediate Access to Permanent Housing: Clients are provided with stable and secure housing without preconditions.
- Separation of Housing and Support Services: Tenancy is not contingent on participation in support services, allowing clients to receive help while maintaining their housing.
- Client Choice and Self-Determination: Clients are empowered to make their own choices regarding their support and services.
- Individualised Support: Tailored support is provided based on the specific needs and goals of each client.
- Recovery Orientation: Services are designed to promote recovery and personal growth, addressing both immediate and long-term needs.
- Cultural and Community Integration: Support includes helping clients integrate into their communities and access necessary resources.
Support and Impact
Our pioneering approach has been supported by key funders including the Tudor Trust and the Big Lottery. We are proud to be one of the first to implement social housing solutions, providing clients with stability through a “forever home.” Our service stands out due to its empathetic response and trauma-informed approaches, focusing on clients with the most complex needs in the borough.
About Our Clients
Our clients often come from traumatic backgrounds, have experienced long-term homelessness, and face barriers to inclusion and social stigma. We recognize that a one-size-fits-all approach does not work for every individual’s journey through homelessness. Therefore, we strive to meet clients at their point of need, offering bespoke solutions tailored to their unique situations.
