Organisation: Bench Outreach 

Role: Healthcare Advocate 

Specialisation: Health Awareness, Support, and Advocacy for Women 

Contract: Part-time, 24-25 hrs per week, subject to a 6-month probationary period 

Salary: £30,000 – £33,000 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience 

Reporting to: Women’s Menopause Specialist 

*This position is offered on a three-year fixed-term basis, with continuation 

subject to securing further funding. 

About Us 

Bench Outreach is a forward-thinking charity dedicated to supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals. Our Shades of Wellness project focuses on empowering women of colour experiencing menopause, mental health challenges, substance misuse, and homelessness. We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Health Advocate to join our team and provide vital health-related support to the women in this programme. 

The Role

As a Healthcare Advocate, you will play a key role in improving health outcomes for women engaged in the Shades of Wellness project. You will provide health awareness sessions, one-to-one support, and advocacy to ensure women can confidently access and navigate healthcare systems. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for a graduate seeking to develop a career in health and social care while making a meaningful difference. 2 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support women in developing a deeper understanding of their health needs, particularly relating to menopause, mental health, and substance misuse, using evidence- based and culturally responsive approaches. 
  • Provide advocacy during medical appointments to ensure that participants’ voices are heard, their experiences are validated and their rights upheld within clinical and therapeutic settings. 
  • Co-design and deliver tailored health education workshops, informed by current research and lived experience, with a specific focus on the unique experiences of women with colour navigating menopause and related health concerns. 
  • Work collaboratively with the Menopause Specialist to develop individualised, holistic health support plans and reflect each women’s needs, goals, and cultural context. 
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals and external services to advocate for equitable, high quality care pathways and improved health outcomes. 
  • Maintain accurate and reflective records, and contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and learning framework of the project to support continuous improvement and evidence generation. 
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as agreed with your line manager, in line with evolving participant needs and emerging best practice in trauma- informed, gender and race aware health support. 

About You. 

You are passionate about empowering women and have a strong understanding of the intersectionality between health, housing, and mental well-being. You are experienced in working with vulnerable individuals and demonstrate cultural sensitivity in your approach. 

Essential Skills and Experience: 

  • Understanding of the barriers women of colour face in accessing healthcare. 
  • Ability to provide culturally competent and trauma-informed support. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in advocacy settings. 
  • Highly organised, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks. 
  • A graduate qualification in health, social care, or a related field is desirable.
